Community Development at Kamarajar Port
Development of the local communities in the vicinity of the port in terms of education, healthcare, quality of living, and livelihood has always been KPL’s top priority. Education is the cornerstone of societal progress, and KPL’s dedication is reflected in its comprehensive support for schools and colleges. By partnering with organisations like the District Rural Development Agency and the Greater Chennai Corporation, KPL has facilitated the construction of over 30 Government school buildings, the creation of 55 smart classrooms, and the provision of 75 drinking water facilities and toilets.
In collaboration with Chennai Port Authority, KPL is funding a school for special children, committing up to Rs. 1 crore per annum. These initiatives have significantly strengthened educational infrastructure, providing children with the tools and environment necessary to achieve their full potential.
Health: A Commitment to Well-being
KPL’s commitment to health is evident in its proactive response to community needs, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognising the strain on public healthcare infrastructure, KPL invested Rs. 50 lakh in FY 2021–22 to upgrade the Government Hospital at Gummidipoondi into a COVID Health Centre.
Additional contributions included Rs. 105 lakh for battery cars and oxygen concentrators at Stanley Government Hospital and Rs. 101 lakh for upgrading the OPD block at Government Hospital for Women and Children, Egmore.
KPL also established a State Mental Research Cell at the Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk, to address mental health concerns arising from the pandemic, demonstrating its holistic approach to community well-being.
Rural Development: Improving Quality of Life
KPL’s rural development initiatives reflect its strong dedication to enhancing the quality of life in nearby rural communities. The port consistently prioritises projects that address essential needs while fostering long-term growth and self-reliance.
Substantial funding has been allocated to rural development programs focused on providing safe drinking water, improving road infrastructure, and promoting early childhood education.
Livelihood Enhancement
KPL’s dedication to livelihood enhancement is exemplified by the construction of Training Walls (Groynes) on the Northern and Southern sides of Ennore Creek at a cost of Rs. 156 crore. This initiative has significantly improved the livelihood of thousands of fishermen and mitigated flood risks for Chennai, positively impacting millions of residents.
Further, KPL installed artificial reefs in Koonanguppam and Lighthouse Nedukuppam villages at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. This initiative enhances marine biodiversity and supports local fishermen by increasing fish availability.
Additionally, KPL has partnered with Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Chennai, to provide job-oriented vocational training to underprivileged students, leading to successful placements in multinational companies.

कामराजार बंदरगाह पर सामुदायिक विकास

शिक्षा सामाजिक प्रगति की आधारशिला है, और केपीएल की प्रतिबद्धता विद्यालयों और महाविद्यालयों के लिए उसके व्यापक समर्थन में परिलक्षित होती है। जिला ग्रामीण विकास एजेंसी और ग्रेटर चेन्नई कॉर्पोरेशन जैसे संगठनों के साथ साझेदारी करके, केपीएल ने 30 से अधिक सरकारी विद्यालय भवनों के निर्माण, 55 स्मार्ट कक्षाओं के निर्माण और 75 पेयजल सुविधाओं और शौचालयों के प्रावधान में सहायता प्रदान की है।
चेन्नई पोर्ट अथॉरिटी के सहयोग से, केपीएल विशेष बच्चों के लिए एक स्कूल का वित्तपोषण कर रहा है, जिसके लिए वह प्रति वर्ष 1 करोड़ रुपये तक की राशि देने को प्रतिबद्ध है। इन पहलों ने शैक्षिक बुनियादी ढांचे को काफी मजबूत किया है, जिससे बच्चों को अपनी पूरी क्षमता हासिल करने के लिए आवश्यक उपकरण और वातावरण मिल रहा है।
स्वास्थ्य: खुशहाली के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता
केपीएल की स्वास्थ्य के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता, विशेष रूप से कोविड-19 महामारी के दौरान, सामुदायिक आवश्यकताओं के प्रति उसकी सक्रिय प्रतिक्रिया में स्पष्ट रूप से दिखाई देती है। सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य सेवा अवसंरचना पर बढ़ते दबाव को देखते हुए, केपीएल ने वित्त वर्ष 2021-22 में गुम्मिडीपूंडी स्थित सरकारी अस्पताल को कोविड स्वास्थ्य केंद्र में उन्नत करने के लिए 50 लाख रुपये का निवेश किया।
अतिरिक्त योगदान में स्टैनली सरकारी अस्पताल में बैटरी कारों और ऑक्सीजन कंसंट्रेटरों के लिए 105 लाख रुपये और एग्मोर स्थित महिला एवं बाल सरकारी अस्पताल में ओपीडी ब्लॉक के उन्नयन के लिए 101 लाख रुपये शामिल थे।
केपीएल ने महामारी से उत्पन्न मानसिक स्वास्थ्य संबंधी चिंताओं को दूर करने के लिए किलपॉक स्थित मानसिक स्वास्थ्य संस्थान में एक राज्य मानसिक अनुसंधान प्रकोष्ठ की भी स्थापना की, जो सामुदायिक कल्याण के प्रति इसके समग्र दृष्टिकोण को दर्शाता है।
ग्रामीण विकास: जीवन की गुणवत्ता में सुधार
केपीएल की ग्रामीण विकास पहलें आसपास के ग्रामीण समुदायों में जीवन की गुणवत्ता को बेहतर बनाने के प्रति इसकी दृढ़ प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाती हैं। बंदरगाह लगातार उन परियोजनाओं को प्राथमिकता देता है जो आवश्यक जरूरतों को पूरा करने के साथ-साथ दीर्घकालिक विकास और आत्मनिर्भरता को बढ़ावा देती हैं।
सुरक्षित पेयजल उपलब्ध कराने, सड़क अवसंरचना में सुधार करने और प्रारंभिक बाल्यावस्था शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने पर केंद्रित ग्रामीण विकास कार्यक्रमों के लिए पर्याप्त धनराशि आवंटित की गई है।
आजीविका संवर्धन
आजीविका संवर्धन के प्रति केपीएल की प्रतिबद्धता एनोर क्रीक के उत्तरी और दक्षिणी किनारों पर 156 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से निर्मित प्रशिक्षण दीवारों (ग्रोयन) के निर्माण से स्पष्ट होती है। इस पहल से हजारों मछुआरों की आजीविका में उल्लेखनीय सुधार हुआ है और चेन्नई में बाढ़ का खतरा कम हुआ है, जिससे लाखों निवासियों को सकारात्मक लाभ मिला है।
इसके अलावा, केपीएल ने कूनांगुप्पम और लाइटहाउस नेडुकुप्पम गांवों में 50 लाख रुपये की लागत से कृत्रिम प्रवाल भित्तियां स्थापित कीं। इस पहल से समुद्री जैव विविधता में वृद्धि होती है और मछली की उपलब्धता बढ़ाकर स्थानीय मछुआरों को सहायता मिलती है।
इसके अतिरिक्त, केपीएल ने चेन्नई के विवेकानंद सांस्कृतिक केंद्र के साथ साझेदारी की है, ताकि वंचित छात्रों को नौकरी-उन्मुख व्यावसायिक प्रशिक्षण प्रदान किया जा सके, जिससे उन्हें बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपनियों में सफल प्लेसमेंट मिल सके।
