Empowering Women: A Journey of Dignity and Financial Independence

Mrs. Karpagam, a member of a Women Self Help Group, recalls how the lives of more than 120 women have changed after being engaged by Kamarajar Port. Twenty years ago, with meager incomes, they found it difficult to afford even a square meal.

During that time, the then Chairman of Kamarajar Port, Shri Raman, IAS, witnessed their hardships and engaged these women by inducting them into the housekeeping services of the port. This initiative provided them with stable employment, financial security, and restored dignity.

Since its inception, community outreach has been an integral part of KPL’s journey, ensuring that economic growth is accompanied by social empowerment.

Ensuring Access to Safe Drinking Water

In Seppakam, villagers like Thirumathi M. Valli and N. Vijaya, who once faced daily struggles to fetch water, now enjoy easy access to safe drinking water, thanks to a bore well and pipeline installed by KPL.

In Thirupalaivanam, the construction of a Reverse Osmosis plant has brought clean water to a community long deprived of this basic necessity. These initiatives have significantly improved daily living conditions and reduced hardship for residents.

Supporting Special Children: A Story of Hope and Transformation

One particularly poignant story is that of Baby Glary, a four-and-a-half-year-old girl child with Down Syndrome. Her family, unable to afford treatment, saw a life-changing transformation when KPL supported her education at the Swabodhini School for Special Children.

With access to physiotherapy and speech therapy, Glary has made remarkable progress. She is now able to walk independently and has significantly improved her speech, much to her parents' gratitude and joy.
